All buildings need to be responsible energy users. How do we get there?

According to EIA, buildings account for 40% of total U.S. energy consumption. Achieving a clean energy future will require that all buildings are extraordinarily efficient. And it all starts with our building codes - which establish the minimum threshold for energy performance. These codes are technology-neutral, but are increasingly performance-driven. That creates opportunities for new products and process while improving results for building occupants and energy consumers. It also presents challenges for the construction industry - from the designer to the installer to code enforcers. From policy to implementation, learn the importance of the 2015 Virginia Energy Code and how it will impact your work when it goes into effect in September. To provide context, results from a Department of Energy funded 2017-2018 Virginia field study will be discussed to highlight areas where the 2012 Energy Code was not being fully implemented. Specific attention will be paid to strategies for complying with upcoming mandatory duct testing requirements, and the new ERI compliance pathway will be explored.
